ITANAGAR, Oct 4: Thousands of youths joined ‘Jaag Arunachal Bhaag Arunachal’-
About 1750 athletes registered their names for the race organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki flagged off the race at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun. The race for men finished at Chief Minister’s Bungalow, Niti Vihar and women at Toyota Motors along NH52A.
N. Subisie of Assam Rifle from Jairampur emerged winner of the race in the men’s category. He took around 45.03 minutes. Ram Naresh of Assam Rifles finished second (45.48 minutes) followed by T Francis at third (45.49 minutes).
Anung Wangsa of Sangey Laden Sports Academy (SLSA) Chimpu won the race in women’s category. She won a bronze medal each in 1500 meters and 5000 meters race at North East Games held in Imphal in 2013 and Mizoram in 2012.
Soni Nalo of SLSA and Posen Kongkang of Sports Authority of India, SAG center, Naharlagun finished second and third respectively.
Winners of both men and women categories were awarded Rs 75,000 each while runners up were given Rs 35000 each.
Earlier, flagging off the race, Chief Minister Tuki called upon the youths to be responsible citizens of the state. He further added that each citizen should participate in such race as it will help them stay them physically fit. Tuki was accompanied by Home Minister Tanga Byaling, former Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy, APCC president Padi Richo and Capital Complex DC Mige Kamki.
While highlighting the objectives of the marathon, Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress president Nyamar Karbak appealed to the racers not to push themselves beyond the limit as it would risk their own life. Encouraging the participants specially youths, he said that young people in Capital Complex proved general perception wrong that they are late raiser by taking part in the run.

At Ziro, the Govt officials and general public organized a massive sanitation awareness rally with the theme “Swachchh Bharat –Swastha Bharat” to mark the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan and the birth day of Mahatma Gandhi.
Attending the main celebration of Gandhi Jayanti at Govt. Secondary School, Hapoli, Deputy Commissioner K M Uppu exhorted the children from various schools to imbibe the good morale preached by the Father of the Nation. Cleanliness should begin from our homes, he said and advised the children to inculcate good habits. Later PC tablets were distributed to class XII, 2014 toppers of the district by the DC. After the program he along with the DDSE and the school staffs inspected the school campus.
Joining the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan, the staffs of PTC Banderdewa including officials, recruits and the staff of VKV PTC Banderdewa organized the cleanliness drive at VKV PTC campus and its surrounding areas on Oct 2.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Tai Kaye said “we must always try to follow his idea of promoting cleanliness in every day life.” He also explained the aim and objectives of the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. The Swachch Bharat Abhiyan was held at Balijan administrative headquarters in a colourful and short function in the office compound of Additional Deputy Commissioner under Papum Pare district, Balijan on Oct 2 last on the birth anniversary of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. ZPM Balijan Tana Puna Tara formally launched the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan by paying floral tribute to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi along with PR leaders and officers.
In his speech, the ZPM recalled the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi. He also requested all the Panchayat members to cooperate with the officers in discharging development activities in the area.

Speaking on cleanliness, the Parliamentary Secretary encouraged the students to volunteer in keeping their surroundings clean. “If you come across dirt in your classrooms or school compound, be the first to pick that dirt. With this attitude, you will learn to know your responsibilities,” he said.

ITANAGAR, Oct 4: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condemned the incident at Incheon, South Korea claiming the judgment taken against Indian Boxer Sarita Devi in the 17th Asian Games was biased.
In a statement, it said that despite the presence of the officials of Indian Olympic Association and Indian Boxing Association on the occasion, they have not raised alarm on the issue.
The protest and denial to take the bronze medal in the medal award ceremony by Sarita Devi was a right decision. Such act has demoralized the talented athletics from the North East region. Both the association instead of taking action against Sarita should lodge strong protest for the unfair judgment. Why the people of North East Region always become victim of racism and regionalism? Do the officials of IOA and IBA see the case of Sarita Devi as a North Easterner, and not as an Indian? APCC questioned.
APCC while supporting the step taken by Sarita Devi appealed IOA and IBA to take up the matter with the organizers of the 17th Asian Games so that the sportsperson get justice.
